Emma is a teacher and performer based in
Reading, Berkshire, UK. She has been dancing since 1993, initially
under the tutelage of Afra Al Kahira and has been teaching since 1998.
She works nationally both as a performer and workshop teacher
and s available for private tuition in a range of subjects.
Emma
teaches workshops for all levels and in many styles and is a
regular teacher at the annual Celebrating Dance Festival. She prefers
to teach technique based workshops as she feels that a strong grounding
in basic principles nurtures a more confident dancer.
Emma
likes to inspire and develop her students’ individual dance styles and
encourages them to perform at every opportunity. She currently only
teaches weekly classes in Reading at intermediate/advanced level.
She also has been closely involved in the running of two troupes –
Mersin, who she co-founded in 2002 with Sara Shrapnell and more
recently in 2007 with Covert Bling.
Emma is also involved in the editing and proof reading of Taqasim and
Mosaic magazines and writes regular articles for publication nationally
and internationally. For more information please see Emma's website.

Anna started dancing six
years ago, after trying a number of different courses at night school
including reflexology. She enjoys classical styles of belly dance but
has found that the improvisational aspect of tribal style has helped to
develop her confidence. Anna also enjoys dancing with a variety of
props, especially a sword. Dance is a great escape from everyday
pressures and being part of a supportive and fun troupe is an added
bonus.
Deborah was bitten by the
belly dance bug eight years ago, and has been teaching Middle Eastern
dance and Improvised Tribal Style (ITS) since early 2008. She also
teaches workshops, and was a teacher at the Celebrating Dance festival
in 2009, and will be again 2010. She has the mantra ‘always look your
best’ and to this end loves making both Cabaret and Tribal costumes and
enjoys the ritual of tweaking troupe members costumes before performing.
For more information see her website.
Her
major loves are Egyptian Cabaret, the Saidi rhythm, pausing in the
middle of a move and fusion (with a nod towards Gothic, but especially
the freedom afforded by ITS). She loves to create good food, and has a
love of Tricolore Salad (which tellingly requires no cooking) and can
improvise to a number of children’s nursery rhymes if required. She has
decided to wait a few more years before introducing her children to the
film ‘Dougal and the Blue Cat’ as the nightmares it is sure to induce
will be very restrictive to her daytime creativity.
